Some basic facts.
The award winning and highly successful White Rose Centre is located on a 76 acre site four miles South West of Leeds and
the awe inspiring venue is able to draw on 1.3 million people within 25 minutes drive-time.
Once the site of Morley sewage works, the 650,000 sq ft of retail space (750,000 gross) is anchored by Sainsbury in the South
Mall and Debenhams in the North. The Centre comprises a further 10 major space users, 72 individual shops and a brand operated
food court. 108 individual units in all. The retail space is complimented by the fastest grown shopmobility scheme in the
UK with over 3,000 members!
Building work commenced on 10 July 1995, the Centre opened on 25 March 1997 and has proved a phenomenal success story. Designed
by Building Partnership, built by Amec and owned and managed by Land Securities in partnership with Evans of Leeds the site
attracts an average of 11 million visitors per year.
Amazing Facts:
- 1.3 million bricks were used, laid end to end these would stretch from Leeds to Tenerife.
- Twice as much steel was used in the construction of the centre than was used for Blackpool Tower.
- 12,060 sq3 of glass were used, equal to four times the largest glass house at Kew Gardens.
- 9,000 sq3 of Terrazzo Tiles were used, enough to tile the bottoms of nine Olympic Swimming Pools.
- 401,733 mtrs of Electric Wiring was used, this would reach from Leeds to Exeter.
