St Gemma's Hospice, Leeds

St Gemma's Hospice is delighted to be the White Rose Shopping Centre’s nominated charity for 2012-2014.  The Hospice, based in Moortown, Leeds provides specialist medical and nursing care to local people with life threatening illnesses, as well as providing support for their families. Care is offered to patients and their carers in the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit, through a team of community nurses and via Day Services, which includes a Day Hospice and Out-Patient’s department.  Families and carers are also supported by the Hospice’s specialist bereavement workers who provide support to all including children and young people. In the last year, St Gemma’s cared for over 2,500 local people.

The services provided by St Gemma's Hospice are free of charge to patients, families and carers, but are not free to provide. That means over £22,000 needs to be raised every day to keep the Hospice going. Please support us in any way you can – every penny really will make a difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the events already held in the centre which have included raffles, a St Gemma's scratch card promotion, and over £400 from a facepainting and tombola event.

MS Society

As a Land Securities shopping centre, the White Rose would like to help the MS Society to raise vital awareness of multiple sclerosis before their 60th anniversary in 2013.  100,000 people have been diagnosed with MS in the UK and it affects around 600,000 people including family, friends and carers.  The MS Society helps people with MS to better understand and manage their condition and assists them through the difficult times.  There are 300 branches of the MS Society across the UK that people can turn to for advice and our fundraising will go toward providing local support as well as vital research into MS.

So far, the partnership total to date is £4,456.90. Thank you for your support.

There is real hope that a cure for MS will be found in our lifetime and potential new MS treatments will be developed in the next 10-15 years – White Rose will be a part of making this happen.
