White Rose Increases Community Policing
High visibility policing, which has proved a major success at White Rose Shopping Centre, has been increased with two new appointments.
Police Community Support officers Lisa Steele and Morgan Cockcroft have joined PC Stan Julien on the White Rose beat to provide a seven-days a week policing presence at the centre.
White Rose Operations Manager Jim White, said: “Community policing has proved both effective and popular since we first introduced it in the summer of 2003 in partnership with City and Holbeck Police.”
He pointed out: “Following the appointment of PC Simon Jessop - our first community constable - figures showed that all recorded crimes at the centre, including shoplifting, theft and public order offences, reduced by 40%.
“PC Julien joined us in 2005 when Simon moved on to a new post and our policy of high visibility policing continues to act as a deterrent to the would-be offender.
“Working alongside our security team and security staff employed by our tenants, Stan, Lisa and Morgan will help us to keep White Rose a safe place for shoppers.”
Inspector Justin Pedley, who heads the City and Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing team, said: “White Rose attracts millions of visitors a year and in such a busy environment we have shown that by working in unison with Jim White and his colleagues we can increase public and retailer confidence, improve security and beat the criminal.”
